Graduate Assistant Position

Information Technology Systems Specialist

Department: Information Technology, College of Engineering Dean’s Office


Type of Position: This position is a 20-hour per week graduate student assistantship. The assistantship is for the upcoming academic year from August 2026 to May 2027.

Position Description

To support the College of Engineering Student Computer Support Office (S.W.A.T.) by assisting in setup and maintenance of computer systems and services.
Providing guidance, training, and documentation to the undergraduate student workers supporting S.W.A.T, the student Security Operations Center, and the College of Engineering Dean's office.
Collaborating with both technical and non-technical personnel across the college to provide troubleshooting for a variety of technical issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the S.W.A.T. Office Supervisor in providing computer support to Engineering Students:
    • Act as a Lead S.W.A.T. Technician.
    • Assist with Undergraduate S.W.A.T. Technician Scheduling and Training.
    • Regularly update Documentation and Procedures.
  • Assist with the student Security Operation Center (SOC) duties by reviewing security alerts and logs to identify and resolve security related issues.
  • Troubleshoot & Maintain endpoints in the Engineering WARE Lab and inVenTs Lab.
  • Troubleshoot & Maintain digital signage hardware for College of Engineering Dean's Office, and to update digital signage content as needed.
  • Assisting with Fixed Assets inventory management, including annual hardware audit and processing surplus.
  • Maintain College of Engineering Dean's Office I.T. Presentation systems and emergency loaner systems to be available for rapid deployment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the SWAT Supervisor, Associate Director, or other appropriate administrator.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows system support.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: programming, writing scripts (such as batch commands or PowerShell), or using a low-code workflow systems (such as Microsoft Power Automate or ServiceNow Workflows, etc.).
  • Self-motivated learner with drive to investigate and solve problems with minimal instruction and supervision.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience writing technical documents.
  • Experience with Mac OS, and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory Services or Microsoft Entra.
  • Experience with Central Logging tools such as Splunk.
  • Experience with Endpoint Management services such as: Kaseya, Microsoft Intune, JAMF, BigFix.
